*DWI is a convenient descriptive label, even though some states use other terms such as OUI (operating under the influence) and DUI (driving under the influene), and in some cases they refer to different levels of severity of the offence.  We have used DWI because it is more descriptive of the offence usually associated with hard core drinking drivers.
