Remedial program

Northwest Territories does not currently have a mandated remedial program in place for impaired drivers. However, the Ministry of Transportation states that convicted individuals may be required to complete: a driver improvement program; an alcohol dependency awareness program; an alcohol treatment program; or, any other condition the Registrar considers appropriate.

Eligibility

Voluntary program to apply for shortened driving prohibition.

Length of participation

Length of participation in the program is determined by the number of previous convictions, likelihood of recidivism, and completion of an alcohol treatment program. To complete the program, one must have a clean monitoring record for a minimum of 3 months.

Sanctions for non-compliance
Possible extension of time required to complete the program. Serious violations may results in removal from the program. Possible fines may also apply.
